Every year United Way Care Week gives corporations an opportunity to give back. To encourage employees to donate $6 out of every paycheck, we created dollar bill sculptures. Major props to the deft hands of artist, Dale Frommelt. It's always fun when you get an opportunity to "make stuff" in this business.

We just finished a four-month effort to launch the new HostessCakes.com. It's work I'm really proud of. As the first CPG site that utilizes responsive design technology, it's a fantastic showpiece for my agency, Bernstein-Rein in Kansas City. Creatively, it's not too shabby either! All the credit in the world to ACD/Art Director Ryan Glendening, Technical Architect Grady Noonen, my co-writer Joe DeSalvo, ECD of Digital Joe Bartolucci and the entire interactive department.

The original YouTube star returns to help Hostess introduce Chocolate Creme Twinkies. Created by me and my team, Jonathan Springer and Brent Davidson. Open up the golden submarine, my friends.

It's time to have a "small celebration" with your favorite Hostess snack cake. Snackisodes.com is simply an app that pulls in your Facebook information and photographs and places them in a personalized, customized video short. Just tell us what you're celebrating, then sit back and enjoy the show. Check out the trailer below then proceed to the site.
Scripts written by me and Joe Desalvo. Art direction by Ethan Tedlock. Special thanks to our production partner Clickfire Media, College Humor directors Josh Ruben and Vince Peone, and the ridiculously talented Upright Citizens Brigade actors Will Hines, Katina Correao, Matt Walton and Nate Smith.

Two posters for Kansas City's minor league hockey team, the Missouri Mavericks. The amazing Colby Lysne behind camera. The masterly Kyle Anthony on art direction. All three of us with an insatiable appetite for cool side projects and a thirst for cold beer while concepting on Tuesday nights at Twin City Tavern.

I think we're onto something with this "Get Excited" campaign for the Missouri Lottery. And what I mean by that is we did another spot. Written by Steve Spencer, Kyle Anthony and me. Directed by the incomparable Jordan Brady on a balmy 103-degree afternoon in the great state of Missouri.

"As long as there are lifeguards, carpenters and cars, there's gonna be radio." I read that on Luke Sullivan's blog and it stuck with me. His point: If you get really good at writing radio, you'll always have a job. This is a spot I just finished for UMB Mobile Banking. Agency likes it. Client likes it. Matt lives to see another day.
Props to the team on this one. Tom Demetriou, Kyle Anthony, John Blank, Bryan Herman and James Billenger.
UPDATE: This spot is a 2011 Radio Mercury Award Finalist. That's cool ... I think.

We created these ads for the digital version of People Magazine on the iPad. The issue was heavy with editorial content about reality TV series, The Bachelorette. So integrating our Blue Bunny Ice Cream Personals campaign made total sense. Readers can tap the containers to hear pick up lines, pull up the relationship profiles for each flavor, and link to Blue Bunny's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Brooklyn Brothers recently created a great campaign for New Era Caps, celebrating MLB Rivalries. Their TV spots feature a hilarious back and forth between Yankees fan, Alec Baldwin and Red Sox fan, John Krasinski. As New Era's digital agency, we had the opportunity to create a social media component for the campaign. And here it is ... a digital scoreboard that lets fans pick sides and socialize their allegiance on Facebook. Almost 40,000 had voted when I took this screen shot. The Internet's crazy, dude.

You might not know that Krispy Kreme was founded in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. But then you might acquire this knowledge if you were meandering through the Winston-Salem airport and happened to see this duratran ad. I know ... a lot of variables. But I'm just saying. It could happen.

... And spot #2. Special thanks to our pal Jordan Brady for his directing prowess.

Person walks into a convenience store, buys a Missouri Lottery ticket, and then imagines the possibilities. That's the 30-second comedic recipe my cohorts Kyle Anthony, Glen Scott, Steve Spencer and I came up with for this campaign. Check out the radio too. I'll post spots #2 and #3 soon. But not before they air. Because that would be wrong.

The annual Smokin' Vault BBQ competition is fast approaching. I don't cook. But I do come up with a name for the UMB Bank team. Then somebody who can draw makes that name funny by designing a logo. And then I take credit for it by posting it on my web site. Here's a look at how we've represented ourselves in years past. Thank you Ai Carver and Kyle Anthony.

My friend Gary Breece is a photographer/director/producer in New York. After a series of unexpected events, he decided flee the big city and head south to revisit his rural routes. The journey of self-discovery is now his latest photography series, titled Off Route. For his first showing, he asked me to write a piece to introduce the exhibition and capture the confused, emotional state-of-mind that fueled his adventure. I'm no Jack Kerouac, but I was intoxicated when I typed this.

My partner and I recently made this idea book for 24 Hour Fitness. They bought it and gave us the green light to develop work around the new positioning. The approach worked really well. Giving our client something tangible to pass around the office got them excited. It also served as a sort of conceptual brief for the creative team. Check back in a few and I'll post the work this inspired.
